Heading to Tucson to ride in the El Tour de Tucson

El Tour de TucsonIn a few minutes I’ll be driving down to Tucson in preparation for the El Tour de Tucson bicycle ride/race on Saturday, November 17.  I’ll be riding in the 109 mile event, which goes off at 7am near the Tucson convention center.  This is the 25th annual El Tour and the organizers are expecting 10,000-11,000 participants.  I’ll be honest and admit I’m a tad nervous about crashes.  I’m not quite fast enough to be in the lead group, which would certainly help alleviate some of that concern.  But I’m also excited to be in such a huge event.

I’ll admit I’ve only been to Tucson a few times, but each has been a very pleasurable experience.  Come to think of it, I’m guessing that’s because the Sun Devils were beating up on the Wildcats at Wildcat stadium.  At any rate, I don’t have any familiarity with the route, but hopefully I’ll ride through some nice Tucson neighborhoods.

Oh, and if someone has a recommendation for a restaurant where I can get a good carb load tonight (aka, spaghetti/italian), I’m all ears.

Sounds like fun! I’d join in if I wasn’t a few thousand miles away… (although I could schedule this into 2008…)

@Levi- I just stepped out of the pre-ride orientation. I’ve checked into my hotel, and now I’m searching for a place to eat. Getting up tomorrow morning at 4am will be the toughest part, and then at 7am, the real fun will begin. Should be a good ride. Oh, the orientation was given by a guy from Minnesota, so it’s definitely a ride that folks are willing to travel a ways to enjoy. And thanks for stopping by!
