This is a bit belated, but I feel the accomplishment deserves the attention. On Thursday, November 1, I changed the primary domain that this blog sits on from blog.101bell.com to www.realphoenixliving.com.
On Saturday, November 3, it seemed apparent to me that I had learned a few things in the process, and I wanted to share my lessons learned with the community. But being relatively new to the RE.net world, I wanted to reach a larger audience, so I contacted Dave Smith from the Real Estate Blog Lab and offered to write a post chronicling the experience. Dave immediately replied back saying it sounded like a good idea, and then offered some further suggestions on things that I had been doing with the domain transition. Dave was definitely a pillar of support, so thanks again Dave.
On Wednesday, November 15th, I felt the transition to the new domain was complete, and spent the next few days cleaning up the notes I had taken, and shipped it off to Dave. Just in time for Thanksgiving, Dave posted the chronicle, which has received some nice responses from just the types of folks I was hoping to reach.
If you are considering a domain change to a blog or website, for whatever reason, I think it’s a good read. If you aren’t considering a domain change, but are somewhat SEO inclined, then I would suggest reading the first day or 2, and skip to the last day, just to get a feel for how long it took me to achieve my definition of “success”.
