Open enrollment for Scottsdale schools set to end January 14th

January 10, 2008

Regardless of where you live in Arizona, if you would like your children to attend a Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) school, you can open enroll your child.  Open enrollment started on December 3rd and is ending on January 14th, so if you have been considering open enrollment, now is the time to act.

Open enrollment can be used to place your child within SUSD if you live outside the SUSD boundaries, and it can also be used to place your child in a different school within SUSD than the school boundaries otherwise dictate.  For example, lets say you live in Grayhawk in North Scottsdale and you would like your child to attend the International Baccalaureate Program at Desert Mountain High School, rather than attend Pinnacle High School within the Paradise Valley School District (as a topic for another day, will be the odd school district boundaries for North Scottsdale).  You can open enroll, and if accepted, your child will then be able to attend Desert Mountain for the remainder of their public school career.

Open enrollment works well for cases where children live near school boundaries, children that desire to attend a special program offered within the school district, and children that have recently move outside the school district, but wish to continue attending the schools within their former school district.  For more information about open enrollment, you can contact any of the 33 schools within SUSD, as well as what you can find online at susd.org.
