Any ideas for things to do on Thanksgiving?

Roast Turkey

Last year I wrote a post regarding the Cine Capri theatre in Scottsdale and going to the movies on Thanksgiving.  During the last year, it ranks as one of the most viewed posts I’ve written.  I even had a gentleman call me from California and thank me personally for writing the post.  If you missed the post, it might be worth a read, particularly the recent comments.

I wrote that post because it was a nice way to tie together my love of the movies, with a local icon (the Cine Capri), and what to do on Thanksgiving.  This year, I’m revisiting the question of what to do on Thanksgiving.

As it would happen, last week I was chatting with some tenants about what they had planned for Thanksgiving, and aside from the normal meal plans, they were going bowling.  This reminded me of another Thanksgiving Day story:

Thirteen years ago I was a fairly good bowler.  Nothing professional, but I competed in local tournaments around the city, and was making a tiny bit of money.  Well, more precisely, bowling wasn’t costing me money, as I’d win about as much as the cost of my equipment/practice.  As it would happen, Wednesday night before Thanksgiving I was at the local center for league night, just warming up.  In the lane next to us a TV crew showed up, filming for some reason.  Being the curious sort I walked over and asked what was up.  The TV personality said they were doing a news spot on things to do on Thanksgiving and were going to mention bowling.  At that point, the camera turned right on me as I was asked, “Do you think bowling would be a good thing to do on Thanksgiving.”  I replied:

Sure.  You’ve got your turkey, your stuffing, and your bowling.  They go together perfectly.

My reply made the air that night.  I think it was the first time I was ever interviewed for TV (funny enough, later that year I made the briefest of appearances on the David Letterman show…I was in the front row of the audience, and we counted 6 whole frames I was on air ;-)

sleeping-guy This year, along with the 10 guests we’ll have over for dinner, I plan to watch the Arizona Cardinals take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Thanksgiving Day.  I’ve never mentioned the Cardinals on my blog before, but can you believe the Cardinals appear to be headed for the playoffs, and could potentially even have a home game in the playoffs?  WOW.

Considering all there is to do on Thanksgiving (bowling, movies, football, etc.), there’s undoubtedly something interesting that you are doing.  Please share.
